Educational Activity: a meadow full of bees

During an excursion in a park or a field we urge children to observe a meadow or a bush in bloom, the flowering trees like fruit trees or lime tree and acacia, buzzing with insects at work. To enable them to distinguish the bees, we will have prepared the children by showing them pictures of different pollinator insects, pointing out their peculiarities.

In the open air, let's try to recognise different insects at work:

  • Are there bees?
  • What do they look like?
  • How many are there?
  • Which flowers and bushes can we find them on?

We collect samples of plants where we have observed bees: a branch of rosemary, a few wildflowers, aromatic herbs, acacia and lime tree flowers, etc. taking care not to mix them up. We will use these samples in the classroom to reconstruct the bees' habitat we explored.
