A gift of plants and flowers
There are different ways to define honey. For bees it is a food
reserve: they are the only insects (with few other examples of similar
insects) to make honey. Among the insects to eat nectar and pollen,
bees are the only ones who need to accumulate food reserves. They
obtain these reserves by transforming nectar, the fresh food of
summer, into a food that can be kept for a long time.
For consumers honey is a highly energetic and sweetening food, rich
in simple sugars. The legal definition contains all the elements
that are needed to identify honey as a product: although it does
so in a very cold style:
