Nowadays Sicilian oranges are very highly esteemed. The Tarocco, Moro and Sanguinello varieties are protected by the Red Orange of Sicily denomination (protected geographical indication). These varieties have accumulated sugar and pigments through the centuries, thanks to the volcanic nature of the soil where they are grown.
Other citrus fruits visited by bees are the lemon tree and the tangerine.
