The arbutus is an evergreen bush which is typical in the Mediterranean scrub. It is a very decorative plant, especially in the winter, because its white bell-shaped flowers bloom while the fruit is still on the branches. The fruit, small, round, and coral-red in colour, although not very tasty in itself, is excellent for making liquors and jams. Moreover, the arbutus can claim to be the fastest plant to recover from the destructive action of a fire.
